British Embassy Bucharest – Unique Job Opportunity: Defence Equipment Officer

The Job:

  • Are you looking for something different? The British Embassy is looking for a Defence Equipment Officer to join our small but highly successful and motivated trade development team. This challenging role helps promote and support British Defence companies and products on the Romanian market.
  • Your role will be a unique one within the British Embassy as the defence portfolio will be your responsibility alone and you will be required to work closely with the British Ambassador, Defence Attaché (DA) and UKTI Defence & Security Organisation (DSO).
  • The ideal candidate should have experience of Romania's Defence Industry - and we will give preference to such applicants. This position comes with a high level of responsibility so you will need to be a good organiser, adaptable, able to work under pressure, often to short deadlines. You will also need to be able to deal with people often at a senior level. There is a strong team spirit within the commercial section and the Embassy is committed to developing its staff with the help of an active training programme.
  • We are keen to develop links with Romania’s regions so opportunities will exist for travel both within Romania and the UK.

Your core tasks will include:

  • Organising UKTI DSO events and activities including the high profile Population Security Seminar scheduled for June 2009;
  • Organising Official visits and UK Inward Visits to events such as the Farnborough Air Show;
  • Providing regular summaries of relevant press articles and maintaining and developing existing networks of contacts from both the private and public sector;
  • Supporting UK companies both established in Romania and those looking to position themselves in market - from large multi-nationals to SMEs.

The Candidate:

You should have:

  • Excellent English both oral and written with focus on drafting and reporting
  • A customer focused ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels
  • Proven management and team player skills
  • Strong IT skills including MS Office
  • A desire to succeed.

The Package:

The starting salary for the position is EUR 1181 gross (plus meal tickets). There are opportunities to earn performance bonuses and the post has 21 days leave allowance.

The position is subject to achieving satisfactory local and overseas security clearances and successful completion of 3 months’ probation.

This position is initially to cover the incumbent job holder's maternity leave from 1 January 2009 to 1 January 2010. There may be a possibility to extend for a further period depending on the return to work date of the current job holder.
